"Equipoise": A balance of forces. Pronounced /ˈekwəˌpoiz/.
These knives are simplicity at its best. Many factors come into play for a thing or place to exist just as they do. The details of the seemingly simple, when examined, may become infinite. The balance of simplicity and detail in these knives are just as I imagined while designing this blade shape and I am pleased to now have them available to the public after having them bounce around in my brain for so long. A piece of art as much as it is a everyday carry knife. This custom knife was designed and handmade in Portland, OR. The exceedingly skilled craftsmanship and quality provided by OOAK Forge is seen in all of our products. We are very proud to say that they have the ability to be passed down and cherished through generations.
This type of folding knife is known as a Friction Folder. The oldest form of pocket knife, dating back 2,500 years. It is called so because it stays closed with just the right amount of friction. It stay open because you are holding it open against a stop. The shape of the handle prohibits it from closing on your hand, unique among this type of folder. I wanted to create a minimalists folding knife with dramatic aesthetics. Something that appeared to entered the atmosphere or had been through battle.
As many know our blades are a sculpture to be used. A work of art that is one of kind in performance and aesthetics. This blade shape makes a good all around cutter. Open boxes or cut the funny out of the newspaper this will do it. The handle shape creates an extension of your arm. This blade shape also lends a tactically minded aesthetic. It is a very well balanced blade. Balance point is actually the pivot point.
